Driving should always be done responsibly, keeping in mind the lives involved. A responsible drive should carry the necessary documents beforehand so as to avoid any complexities and hassle free riding. The documents that need to be carried by a driver are as follows-

• Driving license- it should be in the habit of a driver to register for a driving license before riding any kinds of motor vehicles. A driving license is the testimony of the driver having adequate skills for driving. There are two types of driving licenses-


• Learners license- this is a temporary license which remains valid for 6 months to drive a motor vehicle.


• Permanent License : One becomes eligible for permanent license after one month from the date of issuing the learner’s license.


Various documents needed to apply for a driving license are as follows-


• Residence proof attested copies: - ration card, electricity bill,life insurance policy, voter id, passport, aadhaar card.


• Age proof attested copies- school certificate, passport, birth certificate, pan card.


• Registration: - registration of the vehicle is a must before opting to drive a motor vehicle. Basically, two types of registration are-


• Temporary registration- documents needed for this type of registration are as follows-


1. Copy of sales certificate


2. Copy of road worthiness certificate


3. Copy of valid insurance certificate


4. Pollution under control certificate 5. Copy of address proof.


• Permanent registration-An application for registration of a motor vehicle shall be made to the registering authority within a period of one month by producing the certificates which are submitted at the time of temporary registration.


• Use of helmet- having a helmet is a must while driving a two-wheeler as it helps in safeguarding the head also ensuring utmost safety.


Skills needed to drive safely are-


• Proper maintenance and following of road safety rules


• Merging into traffic


• Proper maintaining the distance and ensuring proper gap .


• Being courteous to others.


• Maintaining proper speed.

What will happen if someone jumps the traffic signal?

A traffic signal is usually put for the safety of the citizens which ensure when to cross the road safely. If the traffic signal is not followed properly, there is a maximum number of chances of getting into an accident which can be life threating for the driver and others as well.

Suggest a few steps to be taken by different sections of society for road safety.


Answer:

Road safety has become a major issue in India as 5 out of 10 cases are related to road accidents. Few steps that are essential to be taken by different sections of society are as follows-

1. Walk on the foot path. If foot path is not available and the road is narrow, walk on the right side of the road watching the oncoming traffic.


2. Must use reflective clothing at night when walking outside built-up area.


3. Always carry a torch while walking at night time.


4. Do look for a safe place to cross and look left and right listen for traffic.


5. Let any traffic coming in either direction.


6. Walk briskly straight across the road when it is clear and continue to watch and listen for walking.


7. Use zebra Lines for crossing roads. 8. Don’t use the mobile in any form while walking/ crossing, i.e. either listening to songs.


9. Take the help of traffic police men while crossing the road.


10. Pedestrians’ do not walk on roads in the inebriated condition

Explain mandatory, caution and information traffic signs with examples?


Answer:

Traffic signs or road signs are signs erected at the side of or above roads to give instructions or provide information to road users. The earliest signs were simple wooden or stone milestones. The various types of traffic signs are as follows-

Mandatory Road Signs. These signs are obligatory on the traffic which uses a specific area of road. These signs indicate what must one do, rather than must not do. Mandatory Road signs are generally round in shape with a red border. Examples are-


• Straight prohibited or no entry


• One way signs vehicles


• Prohibited in one direction


Information road signs- these are the signs which are usually present to convey some kinds of informations to the persons driving on the road. Examples are-


• First aid post


• Public telephone


• Petrol pump


• Hospital


Cautionary signs – these are the signs which depicts a kind of caution to the people on the road to be careful while crossing the road. Examples are as follows-


• Right-hand curve


• Left-hand curve


• Right hair pin bend


• Left hair pin bend.

The rising traffic in the city, as well as rural areas of the country, has highlighted the importance of road safety education for students. In view of the importance of road safety, various programs have been arranged to ensure the active participation of students and get an idea of road safety. However, it’s important to make parents, community, government and all organizations of the civil society to participate the road safety among students. Road crashes have a major impact on Indian lives, economy and national growth. A live every 3.5 minutes is lost due to a road crash in India at present. Around 3% GDP loss to the nation is estimated due to the same. The statistics are high. It is as similar to a flight crashing every day. But, no one talks. A number one cause of death among youth and major reason of person death overall. In order for an economy to grow the lives of its citizens are of utmost importance, so it is essential for everyone living in the society and the community to come forward and walk the cause of road safety. This will ensure sustainability and overall growth of a country.

Getting stuck in traffic is the major problem for the people who use roadways as their transporting medium.

Be it, students, office going employees, laborers etc all are affected with this.


Though there are pedestals for people who walk on the roads, many times two-wheelers use the footpaths also.


These footpaths are used by the vendors for selling their items. Many have even opened a small shop on these footpaths. This makes the roads very congested and results into jams.


Many times we find cars and vehicles being parked in no parking zones, this also causes traffic jams.


The roads have narrowed and often leads to accidents. So to avoid these one must abide by the traffic rules and regulations.
