Let Jusum purchased x chocolates

Total cost of chocolates = Rs. 10x


Similarly, she purchased x candies


Total cost of candies = Rs.5x


According to the question


Profit on chocolates = 20% of 10x = 20/100 × 10x = Rs. 2x


Profit on candies = 8% of 5x = 8/100 × 5x = Rs. 0.4x


∴Total profit = 2x + 0.4x = Rs. 2.4x


But it is given that total profit is Rs. 240


According to the question


2.4x = 240


x = 100


(divide by 2.4 on both the sides)


Hence she purchased 100 chocolates

A steamer goes downstream and covers the distance between two ports in 5 hours while it covers the same distance upstream in 6 hours. If the speed of the stream is 1 km/hr, find the speed of the steamer in still water.
