Refugees are forced to leave to their motherland and flee to another nation for reasons like terrorism, persecution, disasters etc. The other options are national problems of India.

Right to information is a political right, not a human right. It doesn’t directly affect the existence of a person.

India’s position in establishing human rights:

1. The Indian constitution has ensured Fundamental Rights for its citizens like right to equality, right to freedom etc.

2. Protection of the weaker communities like women and minorities is also prioritized by the government.

3. The National and State Human Rights Commission were set up in 1993 through the Human Rights Protection Act. It looks after cases of human rights violation.

Effects of terrorism:

1. It causes the death of many innocent lives as the war zones are usually civilian areas.

2. External and internal security of a country is at risk because of the threat of attacks.

3. In areas like Syria, terrorist attacks have caused huge numbers of refugees from the area.

Remedies:

1. International cooperation of governments is the most important step to counter terrorism.

2. Exploitation of any communities must be stopped as it’s often the discontent that leads to terrorism and rebellion.

3. Black marketing, human trafficking and illegal manufacturing must be stopped as it is the source of power for terrorist organizations.

State Commission for Protection of Child Rights:

1. Set up in 2005, it aims at protection, promotion and defense of child rights in every state.

2. It comprises of a Chairperson and six members out of which at least one has to be a woman.

3. It looks into child rights violation, recommends state government about safeguards to implement, creates awareness, conducts research etc.

The Great Sparrow Campaign in China:

1. Mao Zedong introduced the Great Sparrow Campaign (part of Four Pests Campaign) where people were asked to kill all the sparrows to save grain.

2. Millions of sparrows died and this led to tremendous increase in insect population which in turn destroyed the crops.

3. After the crops got destroyed, millions of people in China died of starvation. It became one of the greatest tragedies of China.

Chipko Movement:

1. Chipko movement began in 1970s in Northern Himalayas as a non-violent movement to save the trees from cutting.

2. The cutting of trees was a threat to the forest ecology and livelihood of the villagers. It was led by Sunderlal Bahuguna in 1980s.

3. The greatest achievement of the movement is the 15-years ban on felling of trees in the Himalayan region by the Uttarakhand government.

Yes, big dams cause problems:

1. Clearing of land: Building huge dams requires clearance of a large area of land which causes environmental destruction and movement of people from the area.

2. Breaking the natural flow: Dam construction break the natural flow of the river which may affect migratory patterns of birds and animals and availability of water downstream.

3. Rehabilitation of people: This is the most negative effect of building large dams as often the people are not rehabilitated and lose their livelihoods.

Celebrating Earth Day

Our school celebrated Earth Day through a series of activities on 22^nd April. The assembly held a half an hour session on steps that every student can take on an individual level. It included basic habits like switching off electrical appliances when not in need to creative actions like reuse of old clothes, recycling of paper etc. The best part of the day was the Eco-competition where the 2 students from each class were to bring anything made out of reused materials. Students made amazing and creative products like wall hangings, cards, pen stands, bags, paper box and even beautiful dresses. The day was marked not only by awareness but also enthusiasm on the part of the students.
