Population density of large cities like Delhi, Bangalore is higher than the population density of villages or a small town, as in big cities more number of people are living in per square kilometre number than the population density of villages. Population density of India is 382, which means that 382 number of people are living in per kilometre square area.

Human resources are very important for the production of good and services and they occupy greater importance than natural resources and material resources, human resources provide skills and labour which is required for the conversion of raw material to final product. For example, steel, steel is made by iron, which is a natural resource as it is mined from the earth, after mining the rocks which have iron, it is crushed by humans and machinery, heated at a very high temperature and then after many processes, it is converted into steel which is used for our home and other infrastructure building, without involvement of human resources, natural resource can't be used by us and that why they have very greater importance. Human resources are the people in the age group of 15 to 60 who are willing to work, have knowledge, skill and ability and educated and healthy

The healthy and educated working population is considered as human resources, as working capability of healthy, educated and trained people contribute more in economic development than the unskilled people.


Education helps in developing skills and knowledge which helps in developing technologies and process which increases the efficiency similarly healthy population contribute more, for example earlier bullock was used for tilling soil in field, now educated engineers have developed tractors which can do the same work much faster, and saved labour can be used in other activities where technologies not available, educated and healthy population which is called human resource boost the economy growth at faster rate.

Why population growth is high in developing countries?


Answer:

The economy of the country moves from underdeveloped to developing to a developed nation. During the underdevelopment phase due to high illiteracy rate and poor medical facilities, death and birth rate both are high so population growth rate is low, but during the development phase, the government spend money on better health facilities to provide better care to pregnant woman, better facilities for old people and newborn, due to which death rate falls down. Maternal mortality rate declined from 398 in 1997-98 to 167 in 2012, birth rate also fall down but relatively at very less rate so overall due to less death rate and still high birth rate, population growth rate is high during the developing phase. Countries which are in developing phase are called developing countries. When a country become a developed nation, due to good literacy rate, birth also comes down and then overall population growth rate reduces.

The quality of the population depends on the number of children born and their health. Healthy children are very important for the nation as they are the future of the nation and they will contribute to the social and economic development of the country. Children are likely to be healthy when their mothers are healthy, so the government took the measures to ensure the good health of mothers and children under different programme and scheme. These measures are mentioned below


 Provision of health facilities – under the national health mission primary health centre, district hospitals are strengthened to provide medical care


 Institutional deliveries through jajani surakha yojana


 Management of malnutrition by providing health supplements to both mother and children to reduce the malnutrition to ensure better health of children.


 Health and nutrition education to promote the habit of a healthy and diversified diet.



Question 18.

Project work:

Visit a village and conduct the census. Classify the population by gender and calculate the sex ratio.


Answer:

This survey was conducted in Mal Bamori village of Mangrol taluka of Baran district of Rajasthan.


During the survey household data was collected on different parameters and information was collected


The total population of this village is 2093 out of them 1093 are male and 1000 are female. The total number of literate people are 1221, out of the 772 are male and 449 are female and the total number of illiterate people is 872, out of the 321 are male and 551 are female.


Based on the above-mentioned information gender ratio can be calculated, as we know that the gender ratio is the number of females per 1000 male, which can be calculated by below mentioned the formula


Gender ratio:


Gender ratio = = 914.91,


in round figure it is 915, so the gender ratio of this village is 915 females per 1000 male.


Similarly, the literacy rate in the village is the ratio of literate people to total people per 100


Literacy rate = (1221/2093) x 100 = 58.33 percent
