You have studied in earlier classes about figures of different shapes such as squares, rectangles, triangles and quadrilaterals. You have also calculated perimeters and areas of some of these figures like rectangle, square etc. For instance, you can find the area and perimeter of the floor of your classroom. This chapter is full of such instances and the heron’s formula is used to find the area of triangles, in this way we can find area of other figures like rectangles, trapezium, parallelogram etc.
